LAS VEGAS (TND) — A second suspect has been arrested in connection to a hit-and-run incident that killed retired Las Vegas police chief Andreas Probst while he was riding his bicycle last month.
Probst was severely injured after a vehicle driven by two teenagers intentionally collided with him from behind, causing him to flip onto the car and off his bike, later falling onto the road.
The other teenager, in the passenger's seat, filmed the whole incident and posted the video to social media, which went viral as outraged swelled over the hit-and-run attack.
Furthermore, the partners-in-crime can be heard laughing on tape as they land their sights on and then begin approaching the biking Probst.
"Ready?" one of the individuals says. "Hit his a**," the other individual says.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives located the involved vehicle and the driver, who was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile. Based on the information gathered at the scene, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police booked the juvenile into the Clark County Juvenile Hall on charges related to the hit-and-run.
Due to the hit-and-run being an intentional act, LVMPD Homicide detectives took over the investigation and the charges against the driver will be amended to include open murder.
On September 19, detectives were able to locate the passenger and placed him under arrest. He will be booked into the Clark County Juvenile Hall where he is facing charges for Open Murder.
Monday, the Clark County District Attorney's Office said they were looking into murder charges against the 17-year-old driver and seeking to charge him as an adult, which is allowed under Nevada law if a 16-or-17-year-old is charged with murder.
